Dec 16th

Well my son Cade and I are in Lubbock the other day as he was helping me do a family and senior portrait session. He wanted to spend some more time with daddy so his help came in the form of being a self portable bi-pod. In between session we came around the corner of Slide and the Loop and had to stop for what we saw.

Dec 6th
We brave the cold we brave the wind we brave the running noses and why???
Cuz Santa’s coming to town!
Sundowns Christmas in the park was a smash hit with half the town in attendance to hear the wonderful carols from the elementary kids…my son included and of course catch a glimpse of the big guy. I love times like this and the events that come along with them and I love even more to just sit back and take a look at what’s around me…this is what I saw.
P.S. If you see something you like…just right click your mouse and take it just keep my name on it!

Thanks for the text Jobeth – Fall Trees and Morning Fog in Sundown Tx 2009
Nov 3rd
My wife tells me a got a text this morning from a friend of ours talking about the low fog tipping the tops of rigs and a full moon still being out. Well I missed the rigs and took some shots at the Sundown Golf Course in place. With a little Photoshop assistance and about an hour of time here is your end results for the fall trees and low level fog. It could have been better if I had been up earlier…but that would be more amazing than the photographs themselves.

Oct 8th
Well it starts with a flat tire a week ago that leads to a blowout yesterday that leads to a wonderful lovely wait at Walley World with my two boys and I wondering around looking at everything in the store. I had my camera with me and didn’t want to let it stay in the car so it went with us on our journey…this is what it saw. The greater good of course being these wonderful little shots.

Moonrise 9-9-09
Sep 10th
Simple enough…I’m coming back from Midland after a Bridal Shoot and as it nears midnight I pass through Lamesa. I’m driving a long and just glanced over my shoulder to see something that just looked bizarre. The moon was rising but it almost looked like a sunrise. I had to take some shots.
Just something I thought was kinda cool!

Boat Race “Thunder in the Canyon” 2009 Photographic Coverage
Sep 6th
Thunder In The Canyon Boat Races Buffalo Springs Lake Lubbock TX
Holy cow these guys are nutz! We went to see the qualifiers for the 2009 Thunder in the Canyon crazy man boat races this year and the slowest thing we saw hit the water was going about 80 MPH…and that was a jet ski! I had heard about this race and even had watch larger events on the tube but being there is a totally wicked experience especially when the Top Fuel Alcohol beasts hit the line…once you see…hear and feel them go by you understand clear why they named it Thunder in the Canyon. Here are a few highlights in this post however I put about 150 clean shots in the new gallery under this events own title so enjoy the shots folks…and make a point to catch this race next time it comes up…you won’t regret it…I promise!

Halloween Party 2008
Aug 29th

Hey folks a little flash back post here. Carrie Day asked me if I still had pics from the Halloween Party that they all put on in 2008. As luck would have it I did still have a slide show up online with the shots in it. Unfortunately the originals were lost in a PC failure…lesson learned I now have MACS!
Here is the link for the slide show.

Senior Portraits Early Bird Specials
Aug 28th
Our Senior year in High school is a rush in every way and form. Not to mention it goes by so dang fast that it seems we never get everything we need done…done.
Don’t put off the Senior Portraits until the end of the year…
Gettr’ DONE now!
Our Early Bird Senior Special if taken advantage of will not only get something very important done and out of the way for you. It will also save you some cash with a special total Session Price at $100.00 of which includes the “Session Time” and a “Session CD” with all of your photographs included. Sitting fees are usually $50 a session and a session CD is normally $150.00 so this is a pretty good deal.
Nothing less is done with each session…so the benefits for Seniors and Seniors Parents are significant. Don’t wait any longer!!!
Expires Dec 31st 2009
If anything special or extra is desired later like announcement design for example that would be an additional cost whenever you are ready for those. I understand the economy we live in is brutal right now so I just wanted to spread some love with this special program. To ask someone to pay $200-$300 or even $500 or more for Senior Portraits just seems out of line and not something I want to do. Sure I have literal thousands of dollars invested in equipment and software just like most other good photographers, but I’m not willing to make a few people pay for it all in a few sessions with high prices. With this session CD included you can take the shots you like and print your own at Walmart, Walgreens or where ever you desire and you can get 8×10’s for $2-$3 each instead of paying $10-$12. This special is really designed to be something for my local community to take advantage of but it is open to anyone right now.

Last day at the pool in Sundown Texas 2009
Aug 25th
Yeah…ok schools in and that’s great but I’m still not caught up from the summer yet. This is a topic about the last day at the Sundown Pool and a little bit of Raymonds B-day too boot.

Birthday Boy...
You got everything from Wade doing the cannonball off the storage shed to my wife standing tall at her 5′ mark. I even got out there sadly for the first time this year even if it was the last day it was opened. It was a good day.
I didn’t take all of these shots but they were all taken with my camera. These images aren’t really for sale but feel free to share them with anyone you want. I have about 50 shots posted in my new gallery system I’ve been playing with under the Sundown Community section in the gallery menu…
see more here: New Gallery

That's how I feel most days!

This is a possibility...

Pure 100% boy...I can see trouble coming now!

Thunder on the Plains Carshow Levelland Texas 2009
Aug 23rd
Man what a hot hot Saturday! The Thunder on the Plains Carshow was the place to be in Levelland over the weekend without question. I have been fortunate enough to lend a hand in building a new site for the organization to help establish a more efficient presence on the web. As a perk to that labor I was able to take a ton of great shots of those incredible works of art called cars. There were some amazing rides out there this weekend and some pretty cool people too boot.
This years event was by and far one of the best to be at for sure. The result of efforts of people who asked nothing in return. I can’t wait until net year.
Checkout a few highlights I have here in this topic now but I will have about 300+ low res files posted in the gallery on the web site for the car show: www.thunderontheplains.net
I will also have higher res files available for viewing in one of my galleries as well link here: http://steveconwayphotography.com/yourgalleries/

Loboettes Volleyball Party 8-14-09 Levelland
Aug 14th
I was invited to the Loboettes Volleyball Team Party where all of the girls and coaches got together to promote the new season upon them with a good ole’ get together. They had some great food and fellowship together while supporting each other and getting fired up about the new year and getting ready to
“Rewrite The Script” on how volleyball should be played.
Wait until you see the new team profile posters coming soon…they totally rock!
Sundown Middleschool Cheerleaders 2009 Makeup Party
Aug 12th
A fantastic idea came to Mrs. Sires to hold a makeup party for the 7th & 8th grade cheerleaders. This party taught the girls many things; however, the most important one being “Beauty comes from within.” At this party, girls were given an opportunity to reacquaint themselves with former friends and get to know those girls who are new to the district while enjoying delicious food. The ladies were given advice on how to care for their skin as well as tips on how to apply their make-up where they all learned the big rule “LESS IS MORE.” In order to capture these fun memories, before and after photos were taken. We had some really great results in the process to boot. Enjoy the before and after slide show and have fun with the candids taken during the party.
Thanks girls for putting up with my camera in your faces the whole time! I HAVE NOW SET THIS TOPIC UP SO YOU CAN COPY THESE PHOTOS FOR YOURSELF…ENJOY THEM! High res copies have been placed in the New Your Galleries for viewing and purchases and you can find the link on the Site Navigation PageEnjoy the candid shots too!
Back Country Trip on a 4 Wheeler
Aug 10th
I hopped on my brother-n-laws 4 wheeler the other day to see what I could find off the beat and path. The day at conclusion tallied up about 35-40 miles going around the middle of nowhere on the edge of Sundown TX. Took a few snaps of interest and will probably have more later to add to the list. The trip lead me to meet some great folks at the end of the day in which Mrs. Hill actually caught a catfish for me to take a shot of.
- Mrs. Hill in sundown Texas with her catfish
- Texas counrty cows and oilfield pump jacks
- OXY Oil Field Pipeline being put down in Sundown Texas

Oil Patch Day Celebration 2009 Sundown TX
Aug 2nd
Who says small towns don’t have anything going for them?
Sundowns community would be one to look at you with a tilted head and one raised eyebrow if you said that Sundown Texas didn’t have anything going for it. If it isn’t for the awesome athletics in the schools or the incredible academic records of past and current too boot. Maybe for Sundown it is the community in general and the way it will pool together when someone is in need stricken by misfortune, illness or even something horrible like cancer. One thing is for sure that on the first weekend of August Sundown is booming with activity and full of community life for the Oil Patch Day Celebration. It becomes an event you don’t want to miss out on and one you need to put on your calendar every year. The event boasted tons of vendors that were based from a far and some local as well with food and lots of nicnacs to buy. Lets not leave out the community open competitions in sand volleyball, horseshoes…and don’t forget Guitar Hero! Of course you can’t leave out the parade and the fantastic fireworks display at the end of the day. I could ramble on and on but I like my photographs to talk more than I do myself. So I’ll leave you with the way I saw Sundowns Oil Patch Day Celebration 2009 through my lens.

Feel free to leave comments on this topic…
Let me know if any images interest you and contact me directly.I have add all photos from this event in the New Your Galleries linked inside of Site Navigation

Sundown Texas Oil Patch Days Ragball Tournament 2009
Aug 1st
I was able to catch a little action from the Sundown Oil Patch Days Ragball tourney.
I think this was the 3rd annual event and I understand the ball games are played continuously through the night into the morning hours. I thought I was the night owl staying up late and taking pictures in the dark!
You got some good folks having some great fun together out there and loving every minute of it and helping to support the local 4H clubs with the funds raised from this event. If you haven’t been a part of this fun time in the past make plans to be a part of it next year.
Here are some shots from just before sunset all the way to 3am
If an image interests you please feel free to contact me directlyAll of these photographs have been placed here http://steveconwayphotography.com/yourgalleries/
Sundown Texas Lightning Photography 2009
Jul 29th
I was given information that this photograph along with a few others actual got some airtime on Channel 11 KCBD in Lubbock Texas. Did anyone have it recorded on July 22nd 2009? I didn’t get to see it!
How it happen…
I’m up late last night going through photographs from the 12yr old Cal Ripken State Tournament in Littlefield and it’s about 2-3am when I hear the crack of lightning. I thought to myself that I couldn’t get so lucky two nights in a row with lightning photographs…could I?
Well…I snapped on my Nikor 50mm f1.4 to my Nikon D700 and took off to see what would happen. I got out and looked all around Sundown trying to find the most likely spot to get lucky. It was coming down hard around Hobbs but seemed to far off…then I looked back toward Brownfield and Ropesville and the sparks were flying hard and heavy. I found a cool spot to setup and waited.
If you would like copies of any of these photographs please call me directly 806-891-0378
I have added a few others to the list from 7-29-09.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) Imaging
Jul 20th
This will be a running topic for HDR imaging that I will add to as time goes on. HDR is a process that lets us see things we other wise wouldn’t have noticed in a standard edited photograph. Some of these photos are very very vivid while others will be just slightly more highlighted. I hope you enjoy these HDR photographs as much as I do.
Helping out a friend
Jul 20th
Had a friend ask me to help him out creatively with some old photos of his grand parents. All he had were two old photos one of his late Grand Father and the other one of his Grand Mother. At first I was going to cut the heads out of the photos in photo shop but when I started looking at them it seemed well balanced to keep them in a photo frame format. The photo is going to his Grand Mother as a keep sake as they never had a portrait done together from what he told me.
The two copies I had to work with…and I do mean copies…these are the actual photographs I used in PS.

This was my idea for him.

Photographs of Levelland Texas Early Settlers 2009
Jul 15th
What a great year for Early Settlers in Levelland. From what I can remember out of the last few years this event seemed to be a great success in many ways. A lot of out town vendors seemed to fill the vendor booths up pretty well and the locals made a good turnout to boot. I took my Nikon with me so that I could catch anything that seemed cool…
This is what I came up with photographically from candid shots throughout the day.
- Photograph of the coolest dog in Levelland TX
- Photo of the Channel 11 Camera girl
- Best Lemonade for 100 miles…Linda rocks!
- That’s just so clicehe
- Weenee boy

San Fransisco for the 4th of July 2008
Jul 4th
Well this is kinda funny. I took my oldest son with me to San Fransisco for the 4th of July. We did all the normal tourist stuff and as we were walking up from the bay coming through China Town I noticed something. On a corner I saw a modern looking guy taking shots of people with his camera…of course the camera caught my eye as a brand that runs about $8000-12000. So right away I knew I had a professional on the prowl for something unique to shoot on the 4th of July evening. Well I pulled out my humble little Nikon and got it ready to fire…we started to cross the street headed his direction and just as we got half way across the street I readied myself for the shot. I had him in focus as we walked towards him and I waited for him to see me and try and figure out exactly what was going on. He was looking around waiting for his next target…and then he saw me. He double took…and then gave me a angry eyebrow and I snapped it. It was perfect…the Photographer got took. He giggled and we both walked towards one another.
I showed him the shot…and he said “You got me”.
Just a funny little story I thought I’d share…

Photographer gets took...
Another shot in China Town in San Fransisco. We were walking along and passed this alley and just as we were almost by it completely I glanced over and noticed a guy standing against the wall in a black trench coat. I kept walking by…but then a split second later I thought about the shot in my head. I turned around and got on one knee and took this shot.
It’s just a cool mysterious photograph to me…who is he…what is he doing there…it just raised an interest to me is all.

A few others I took in San Fransisco for the memories later on…

Baltimore MD for the 4th of July 2007
Jul 17th
In 2007 I took my family to Baltimore MD for the 4th of July. We had a blast everywhere we went with all of the history in that town.
The Inner Harbor is incredible in every aspect and we also had the fortune to go to Washington DC and got some cool shots..
We had taken a dinner cruise on the harbor and as the sun was setting behind the cityscape I started to take some shots as it happened.
If you get the chance to go…do it!
These are some of the favorites of the series.
